My wife, Janet, and I relocated to Southport in December 2018 from York Beach, Maine, where we had resided for approximately 12 years. Like many of you, we bought a lifestyle as well as a home. Prior to that, we spent most of our working lives in Sharon and Walpole, Massachusetts.
I was born in the Delta Country of Arkansas, near Memphis, TN. When I was 13, my family moved to Lubbock, TX, and upon graduating from high school, I enlisted in the Air Force. My final duty station was North Truro AFS. Jan, on the other hand, hails from Taunton and was living and working in Provincetown when we met in 1971.
Although the Air Force trained me as a mainframe computer technician, I initially distanced myself from computers after my discharge in August 1972. I worked in retail for several years until 1979 when I accepted a managerial position at one of the first computer stores in the Boston area. This marked the beginning of my career working for various software companies, assisting computer manufacturers in designing personal computers and implementing system software. In 2005, I retired and embarked on a journey with Jan, traveling around the country in a motorhome for the next 4 to 5 years. We spent our winters in places like Benson, AZ, Harlingen, TX, and different locations in Florida, while our beach cottage in York Beach, ME, served as our home base.
